Judge denies bond for 4 suspects in Myrtle Beach Waffle House shooting

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Four suspects connected to a shooting near a Myrtle Beach Waffle House will stay in jail

Hubert Durant, Evin Worrell, Jerrick Thomas and Domnick Johnson made their first court appearance on Thursday morning at the Myrtle Beach Municipal Court.

All four are charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Warrants obtained by WMBF News show police were called just before 2 a.m. Wednesday to the Waffle House on Frontage Road East, which is in the area of the Highway 17-Highway 501 interchange.

During the investigation, police learned Durant inappropriately touched a victim while at the Waffle House, according to the warrants.

The documents show the victim told a male friend about the incident and that’s when a fight broke out between the friend and the suspects.

The victim and the friend drove away from the scene and that’s when the suspects allegedly started firing at their car.

WMBF News spoke with a witness who said he heard 10-14 gunshots. Three cars were hit with bullets.

The suspects then drove away from the scene but were quickly found after a brief chase, according to the warrants.

During the bond hearing, Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock made a statement about the shooting, stating that not only did she receive calls from her officers about it but also from people in the community who asked her to protect them.

She said that there have been ongoing issues with the group of suspects and feel they are a danger to society. She added that they needed to be held accountable for their actions and asked the judge to deny bond.

The judge ultimately denied bond for all four suspects. She also ordered that all four men not have contact with the victim in the case.

Myrtle Beach police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
