The gloomy Memorial Day Weekend weather isn't stopping the Atlantic Beach BikeFest and the roaring sound of both bikes and thunder can be heard for miles.
Many bikers we spoke with, most of who are visiting from out-of-state, said the weather isn't ideal, and it puts a damper on the weekend; however, that's not going to deter them from 'riding in the storm.'
Downtown Myrtle Beach would typically be filled with bikers visiting for BikeFest.
Friday was a little different as the streets were full of people, but no bikes were in site.
One group of visitors said they drove 12 hours just to come to BikeFest, and they're disappointed with how the weather turned out.
"I mean it's dampened because it's the beach. We bought bathing suits that you're supposed to wear and now it's cold so we're like dang what are we going to do.?" Aja and Cycoria, From Arkansas, said.
However, bikers a few miles North were less bothered by the rain.
"The weather doesn't really change much. I mean it's cool, it's raining, but we still gonna ride regardless," James Cue, From North Carolina, said.
Cue said even though it's not the sunny weekend he'd hoped for, he's still going to, "Just have fun, enjoy no responsibilities, and just relax."
There will be live music, food, and plenty of vendors.
Police also have a command post set up in the area with multiple agencies like SCDNR and SLED.
Chief of Atlantic Beach Police, Quentin Robinson, said they average one arrest per year during BikeFest.
"We're here to make sure everybody stays safe. It's basically to make sure that we're more proactive than reactive here," Robinson said.
He said he also has hopes of the rain going away.
"Hopefully it'll pass over in the next day or so and maybe we can try to salvage a little bit of bike week," Robinson said.
He said the rain may make roads slippery, so he reminds everyone to be on alert, especially with all of the extra traffic.
Atlantic BikeFest runs until Monday.
