Big Muddy Monster Festival in Murphysboro celebrates 50th year of its sighting

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KFVS) - The home of the Big Muddy Monster celebrated the 50th year of its sighting.
On Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Murphysboro, Illinois hosted the Big Muddy Monster Festival.
There was a statue unveiling, vendors, food trucks, music, a 5K walk/run, documentary screening and more.
The statue was unveiled at 11 a.m. in the new development area near the Holiday Inn Express.
The only footprint casting left from a sighting in the early 1970s was on display at the festival.
Proceeds from the 5k walk/run will benefit the Old Depot Restoration project.
