Plano East earns sweep of SGP to march on in volleyball playoffs
DALLAS--The Plano East volleyball team met South Grand Prairie back in August during the first week of the season, claiming a 25-16, 25-18 victory in a tournament pool play game. The rematch arrived on Thursday with much larger stakes, as the teams squared off in the Class 6A Division I bi-district round of the playoffs. It appeared that the second meeting would mirror that of the first, with the Lady Panthers in control, but the Warriors were not going down without a fight and were on the verge of tying the match at a set apiece. However, East was able to do what it needed in a crucial Game 2, and it went on to a 25-17, 25-23, 25-13 sweep at Thomas Jefferson High School. The Lady Panthers improve to 30-11 and advance to the area round to face the winner of Friday's Hebron-McKinney Boyd game. "We had some moments where we came out and played really well and we had some moments where we played a little bit scared or played not to lose," Plano East head coach Sarah Perez said. "But overall, we came out and competed and ultimately we came away with our first playoff win for

After losing eligibility, Fort Worth area baseball star returns to former school
Fort Worth area baseball phenom Luke Esquivel has returned to Grapevine High School, his father Lale Esquivel told the Star-Telegram on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The family’s appeal for athletic eligibility at Southlake Carroll was denied by the University Interscholastic League State Executive Committee in a 4-2 vote Thursday, Oct. 22. In these cases, athletic eligibility remains at the previous school, which is Grapevine. Esquivel is one of Perfect Game’s top recruits nationwide, an LSU pledge and the 2025 Star-Telegram Player of the Year. He led Grapevine to a Class 5A Division II state championship in 2025 as a freshman, hitting .434 with 31 RBIs and posting a 1.459 ERA with 122 strikeouts on the mound. The 4-6A District Executive Committee originally ruled Luke Esquivel’s move to Southlake Carroll to be for athletic purposes in a 6-1 vote. His prior athletic participation form was marked for a change of schools for athletic purposes by Grapevine-Colleyville athletics. Lale Esquivel told the Star-Telegram he scheduled a meeting with Grapevine baseball coach Jimmy Webster, GCISD executive director of athletics Billy Skinner and principal Alex Fingers to discuss Luke’s transition back into the school district. In the DEC and UIL SEC hearings, Lale Esquivel alleged

Hayes Hackney eligibility: Argyle QB wins UIL appeal, reinstated
Argyle High School (TX) star quarterback Hayes Hackney won his appeal and has been ruled eligible to play by the University Interscholastic League , according to The Dallas Morning News. The 3-0 ruling on Thursday, Oct. 29, a boon for the Dallas-area football program, overturned an Oct. 20 decision from Hackney’s local 3-5A Division II district executive committee that deemed him ineligible over a residency dispute. Texas high school football rankings: Houston King makes a statement The junior and Prosper Walnut Grove transfer missed one game due to the previous ineligibility ruling, but will return to the field this Friday for Argyle’s final regular season game against Community. The Eagles pushed through in his absence to take down Colleyville Heritage 45-35 last Friday. Hackney had initially been cleared to play for Argyle after a 3-5A Division II district executive committee hearing in May determined he did not move for athletic purposes, and led the Eagles to a 7-1 start before being benched by the ruling. In that time, he led Dallas-area 5A quarterbacks with 2,574 passing yards and ranked second with 32 touchdown passes. The Texas high school football postseason kicks off the second weekend of November, which will start
