Freedmen exhibit opens at US Marshals Museum
FORT SMITH, Ark. – An exhibit that explores Black slavery in the Cherokee Nation through the eyes of Freedmen and their descendants has made its way to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Called “We Are Cherokee: Cherokee Freedmen and the Right to Citizenship,” the exhibit – previously on display in Tahlequah and Tulsa – opened at the U.S. Marshal’s Museum in May for an eight-month run.
