West Burlington Police find juvenile with gun on school property
A juvenile with a gun was found on school property and now faces a felony charge, according to a news release from West Burlington Police. About 6:15 p.m. May 12, officers received a tip from a resident who saw two people walking around the area of Leffler Street with what appeared to be a gun. Officers searched the immediate area and located two juveniles walking on the property of the West Burlington Elementary School. Officers recovered a gun in the waistband of one of the juveniles.
Fatality crash reported in Des Moines County, Iowa State Patrol says
DES MOINES Co., Iowa (KWQC) - A fatal crash was reported in Des Moines County by the Iowa State Patrol. Thursday at 10:08 a.m. at 2001 Isabell Ave. in Burlington, a garbage truck was backing southbound on Isabell Ave., according to Iowa State Patrol’s crash report. A hearing-impaired pedestrian attempted to cross the street and was hit by the garbage truck.
‘Swatting calls’ hit schools across Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, swatting calls impacted schools in multiple counties on Friday. Schools in Polk, Henry, Johnson, Hamilton, Dallas, Muscatine, and Delaware Counties all reported instances of “swatting calls” to police. Officials say they are working with the FBI to identify the caller.
