MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — The Mount Laurel Police Department (MLPD) is highlighting recent investigations and arrests that have taken place in the Township through a new community reporting system.

The MLPD rolled out a new feature to its website earlier this year in which residents can sign up to receive a weekly e-newsletter delivered to their inboxes that summarizes the number of investigation reports, calls for service motor vehicle collisions and overdoses that have taken place throughout the week. The newsletter also highlights specific investigations and arrest incidents.

The latest report covers April 17 through April 23. Throughout this period, the MLPD conducted 55 investigation reports, had 1,043 calls for service, dealt with 23 motor vehicle collisions and made 23 arrests. There were two overdoses reported during the time frame.

The MLPD highlighted several arrests and investigations, including:

    • Mount Laurel police officers charged a suspect on April 19 with certain persons not to have weapons, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a defaced firearm after an investigation that began on April 9, when police responded to a business on the 1100 block of route 73 for a report of a recovered firearm. The investigation found that the suspect left an AK-47-style rifle inside of a hotel room. The suspect's location is currently being sought.
    • Mount Laurel police responded to a report of a burglary at a business on Federal Street on the morning of April 21 and found in their investigation that two unknown males with black bags were observed fleeing towards I-295 after being confronted. The suspects then dropped the bags, which contained cut wires and copper tubing stolen from inside the building. The damage to the building was estimated to be $75,000. The investigation is ongoing.
    • The Mount Laurel Police and Fire Departments responded to a business on the 4100 block of Church Road on April 22 at 2:46AM for a report of a fire. The joint investigation found that a piece of clothing was set on fire in front of a room at the business. After police located and arrested the suspect, a search found an unlawful smoking pipe. The suspect was charged with aggravated arson and CDS offenses on a warrant and was taken to the Burlington County Jail.
    • Mount Laurel officers responded to businesses on the 900 block of Route 73 and the 500 block of Fellowship Road on April 23 at 3:46AM, 8:19AM, 8:51AM and 5:02PM for various investigations related to burglary, attempted vehicle theft, criminal mischief and theft. Investigations conducted by MLPD detectives have revealed that a Kia Sportage had its rear window shattered, its steering column damaged and two loaded Glock handguns stolen from the vehicle; a Kia Sorento had its rear passenger-side window shattered and its steering column damaged; a Hyundai Elantra had its rear window shattered and steering column damaged; and a Hyundai Elentra had its passenger side door handle forced open and steering column damaged. The investigations remain ongoing.
