MT. JULIET, Tenn. -- Animal rescue volunteers in Mt. Juliet are busy this Memorial Day weekend after taking in two dozen animals on Thursday, including some serious cases where several cats are going to have their eyes amputated.
On Thursday, True Rescue posted that beyond their huge number of current cases and patients, they had just received 24 cases out of Bedford, Robertson and De Kalb counties.
Seventeen urgent-care kittens were rescued by Smith County Humane from a De Kalb property, which True Rescue says is a known dumping ground for cats, were transported to True Rescue for treatment of serious upper respiratory infections, that may result in some of them losing their eyes. There are reportedly as many as 45 cats/kittens out there.
Four cats taken in from Bedford County will also likely lose an eye, said True Rescue.
And one of two abandoned puppies from Springfield Animal Control has undergone surgery for a prolapsed anus, which is a condition in which rectal tissue protrudes through the anus, according to PetMD.
