Meet the trio running for Tama County Sheriff
Ahead of the Tuesday, June 4 Primary Election, Tama-Grundy Publishing correspondent Michael D. Davis sent questionnaires to the three candidates – Lucas Dvorak, 38, of rural Gladbrook; Trevor J. Killian, 48, of Toledo; and Casey Schmidt, 37, of Dysart – running in the Republican primary for Tama County Sheriff to replace longtime Sheriff Dennis Kucera who is retiring effective the end of the year. All three candidates are currently employed by the Tama County Sheriff’s Office: Dvorak and Killian as detectives/deputies, and Schmidt as a K9 deputy. Killian is also a Command Sergeant Major in the Army.

La' James cosmetology school to refund more than $200,000 to settle Iowa student loan suit
An Iowa cosmetology school with a long and checkered history of financial issues has agreed to refund hundreds of thousands of dollars to students whose financial aid checks it delayed or withheld. GMG track teams compete at Iowa Star Co-Ed Conference meet
MAXWELL — The Green Mountain-Garwin track and field teams competed at the Iowa Star Co-Ed Conference Meet last Thursday, May 2, bringing home several scoring finishes. Sophomore Makayla Pendleton led the Wolverine girls with a runner-up finish in the discus, while on the boys’ side, senior Jabari Woodbury was the big point-scorer for GMG placing second in the 400-meter dash, third in the 200-meter dash, and anchoring the second-place sprint medley relay team alongside teammates Colin Teske, Grady Dieleman and Slate Witte.
