It was Royals domination over the Maple Lake Irish Friday, 13, as the Royalton football team won 44-6 in its first home victory of the 2024 season. Flyers beat Mora with milestone achevements
Little Falls tennis defeated Mora 5-2 at home Tuesday, Sept. 17 as three players achieved victory milestones. Winners in singles matches include Olivia Litke (6-4, 6-3), Elise Ballou (6-3, 7-5) and Addie Ranta (6-0, 6-1). In the doubles action, Aylah Iverson and Mya Ballou won both of their sets 6-1. Flyers dominate Melrose in three-game week
Little Falls found the net five times as the Flyers dominated Melrose for a 5-1 victory Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Melrose in a game that featured a Richelle Thompson brace and two Flyers scoring their first career goals. Desiree Kuhl scored her first career goal 16 minutes into the game, netting a rebound of a Richelle Thompson shot that ricocheted off the goal post. The Little Falls Flyers boys soccer team had a strong start against the Melrose Dutchmen Tuesday, Sept. 17, but eventually struggled as they fell 4-2. The Flyers had possession of the ball for most of the first half of the game. The Flyers’ Cayden Neisen scored his team’s first goal on a penalty kick at the 10 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead. Bulldogs win border battle against Upsala
The Swanville Bulldogs upset the neighboring Upsala Cardinals in three sets Thursday, Sept. 12 (25-8, 26-24, 25-13) in high school volleyball action. The Bulldogs’ Lily Peterson had eight kills and 13 assists, along with Allie Bernadot’s seven kills and Reese Jackson’s 12 assists. Avery Douglas went 10 for 10 in serving, while Delaney Chuba went 11 for 12. Addison Hudalla had four kills and one block on defense. Douglas had 17 digs and Morgan VanHeel came up with four. Individual results from the Cardinals were not made to the Record by press time. The Bulldogs hosted Osakis Thursday, Sept. 19 while the Cardinals traveled to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. The Cardinals go on the road Tuesday, Sept. 24 to take on Maple Lake. The Cardinals will also be on the road against Braham.

The following are local sporting events on Sept. 14, compiled by Nick Tabatt. Volleyball The Swanville Bulldogs competed at a tournament at Crosby Ironton. They beat Staples-Motley and Crosby-Ironton 2-0. They fell to Belgrade-Brooten Elrosa in the championship round 0-2. The Upsala Cardinals were also at the Crosby-Ironton tournament. They lost to Pine River Backus 0-2. They won their next three matches 2-1 aganst Barnum, East Central, and Mille Lacs. They lost their last match to White Bear Lake 0-2 The Royalton Royals traveled to a tournament in Walker Hackensack-Ackeley. They beat the hosting team 2-0, beat Lake Park-Audubon 2-1 and fell to Fertile Beltrami 1-2. They won theeir last match against Park Rapids 2-1.

Little Falls Homecoming King and Queen Crowned
Monday, Sept. 16 was the night for crowing the 2024 Little Falls Community High School homecoming king and queen. Through the process of voting by the LFCHS student body, Alayna Neu and Joey Welinski were selected homecoming king and queen and crowned in a coronation ceremony held Monday, Sept. 16 in the high school auditorium. The homecoming court is: Elise Ballou, Molly Petrowitz, Faith Krawiecki, Claire Anderson, Carter Ghost, Mason Tschida, Peter Knock, Bobby Tours, and Queen Alayna New and King Joey Welinski.
Shooting Preserve welcomes hunters
The Midwest Gamebirds Shooting Preserve in Pierz opened up for another season Saturday, Sept. 7. Multiple groups of hunters went out into the fields of tall and thick grass to hunt pheasants. Even though pheasant season in Minnesota doesn’t start until Thursday, Oct. 12, The 120-acre game farm allows hunters to shoot pheasants early, with no licenses required. The Pierz Pioneers tennis team traveled to Mora Tuesday, Sept. 10, winning 4-3. They won two of the singles matches, starting with Sam Hoheisel winning two sets (6-0, 6-2) along with Adi Tomala (6-0, 6-0). The Little Falls Flyers football team hosted East Grand Forks Friday, Sept. 6. The Flyers lost, being shut out 14-0.
