The following are summaries of local football games on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, compiled by Nick Tabatt.

Patriots sweep Pine River-Backus

The Upsala/Swanville Area Patriots football team started the season dominating Pine River-Backus 41-6 Friday, Aug. 30.

The Patriots’ Frank Meagher completed 12 out of 14 pass attempts for 185 yards and four touchdowns. Jack Primus made three receptions for 96 yards, with his longest being a 69-yard completion from Meagher. Primus also ruled for 63 yards. On defense, Caden Beseman and Gavin Shutter both had three tackles each.

As a whole, the Patriots had 361 total yards in the game while Pine River-Backus had 28. Each team lost one fumble and Pine River-Backus threw two interceptions.

Royals fall to Rockford

The Royalton Royals football team began the season hosting Rockford Friday, Aug. 30. The Royals lost 6-20. Brady Yourczek completed 12 out of 18 of his pass attempts for 94 yards. Ethan Albright made one pass for 48 yards. Braedon Hansen made five receptions for 70 yards in the game, along with the Royals’ lone touchdown. Max Vannurden made five tackles, including one sack and two tackles for loss.

Rockford ended the game with 296 total yards against the Royals’ 219. Each team threw one interception.
