Barstool's Brandon Walker Says WVU Will Be 'A Special Brand of Awful' in 2023

No love for the Mountaineers from the Unnecessary Roughness crew.

Expectations in Morgantown are rather low for the West Virginia football team as they enter the 2023 season. The fanbase is growing impatient with fifth-year head coach Neal Brown, who holds a 22-25 record and three losing seasons in four years.

But it's not just those inside the state who have set a low bar for the Mountaineers. It's a lot of folks. From the sportsbooks to college football analysts to radio/podcast hosts, you name it. Recently, Brandon Walker of Unnecessary Roughness on Barstool Sports revealed his thoughts on WVU and how he believes they will struggle mightily this season.

"It's not a team with expectations. It's a team that made a mistake. This team last year should have fired their coach. And they didn't. And they decided to run through it one more time. And they are going to be God-awful this year. The West Virginia Mountaineers should have fired Neal Brown last year. The second he went out like a coward against Pitt when he punted on 4th & 1 and basically gave up -- when he went out like a coward there I immediately knew, nope, he's not your guy. He can't get you to the next level. I don't even know if he's on the hot seat. He's just waiting to get fired. And they are going to be a special brand of awful this year. This Big 12 is going to be super competitive. There's not really an easy game in the Big 12, in my opinion. And I think West Virginia is going to be as bad of a football team in that conference as they can be."
