— The Thrasher Group Inc., for donating more than 40 Jared Boxes to WVU Medicine United Hospital Center. Jared Boxes are part of the Jared Box Project. Each box contains small gifts, toys, games, crayons, coloring books and fun activities in a bid to lift the spirits of hospitalized children.
— John Ebert, one of West Virginia’s largest private employers, with McDonald’s franchises throughout the state and region. Ebert recently was recognized for outstanding service to the McDonald’s brand with the Ronald Award.
— The Marion County Soup Opera. The nonprofit turned 40 recently and continues to serve as a key part of the community, serving a meal to an average of more than 60 people per day.
— The many career and technical education students from around the state who participated in West Virginia Skills USA competitions. And to United Technical Center and other sites that hosted the competitions.
— The Robert C. Byrd Show Choir, which recently won the West Virginia Class B state championship. Robbie Mendez also was named Best Male Soloist, and Peyton Smith was named Top Performer.
— Concert band members from schools in Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Taylor and Preston counties. They participated in the Region 10 Band Festival this week in Bridgeport.
— South Harrison High School students, for putting on some great local entertainment via the play “Once Upon a Mattress.” Shows continue today and tomorrow at the school.
— Pierpont Community & Technical College, for offering a vibrant aviation maintenance technology course of study.
— Dr. Thomas Edward Condron, the Clarksburg dentist who served thousands during his nearly 50 years in practice. He was also active in his community and his church and devoted to his family. Condron passed away recently at age 76.
— Jackie “Jack” Paul Williams, a longtime educator, successful coach and family man who had a positive impact on young people in Harrison County and South Carolina. Williams passed away recently at age 66.
— The Marion County Chamber of Commerce, for holding another Women’s Expo. The event at the Robert H. Mollohan Research Center was designed to inspire and empower.
— Fairmont State University’s College of Liberal Arts, Performing and Community Arts, for providing a vibrant spring lineup that includes both free shows and paid shows.
— The Mountaineer Military Museum in Weston, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
— Bridgeport High School’s Zach Rohrig, who won the Frank Loria Award as best high school football player in Harrison County for a second consecutive year. Only two others — Brett Hathaway and Jeremiah King — have won the award twice. Rohrig, a junior, has a chance to become the only three-time winner.
