MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — Upgrades are coming to Morgantown’s Norwood Fire Station.
City Council has accepted a bid of $1,770,957 from Lytle Construction to make the improvements.
Assistant City Manager Emily Muzzarelli said there were four bids and only about an 8% difference between the high and low bids.
“They were all pretty close, which is what you want to see in the bids,” she said.
The base project will include the creation of individual sleeping quarters and repairs to the bathroom, where there are some foundational issues and plumbing problems.
The first add-on alternate bid, which was approved, will be an addition to the station for exercise equipment, which is currently in one of the garage bays.
A second add-on to the project for a separate decontamination bay was not included in the bid award. Essentially, a decontamination bay is a bathroom and laundry room on steroids, Muzzarelli explained.
“And one of the reasons why we opted not to go forward with this at this time, first off, money. Funding,” she said. “But that was a separate enough project that that can be built back in later. So that was something that we felt we could go after very specific grant dollars to do that small amount.”
City Manager Kim Haws said the base bid and alternate bid on the project involve a shared wall, so that work needs to be done at the same time.
Muzzarelli noted that without the gym project, there won’t be the space for the decontamination bay.
