DEI announces new weekly advoChat

advoChat

Faculty, staff and students are invited to join Maggie Von Dolteren, prevention education specialist with the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. every Monday on Zoom to help develop advocacy skills and learn how to get involved on campus.

AdvoChat will provide a safe space to learn about consent, healthy relationships and prevention on campus on the following dates:

March 20, Dynamics and Impacts of DV
Attendees will learn to identify signs of intimate partner violence, understand the contexts in which violence can occur in a relationship and become familiar with community resources available for survivors.

March 27, Peer Support: How To Help A Friend
Attendees will learn about victim rights and how to support a friend or loved one who has experienced sexual or gender-based violence.

April 3, A Movement, not a Moment: #MeToo
Attendees will learn more about the MeToo movement and how peer advocacy contributes to the work of the broader movement to end sexual violence in our communities.

April 10, Trauma and Medical Forensic Exams
This session will cover trauma-informed practices through the lens of the medical forensic exam known as the rape kit. Attendees will learn about the processes that take place during a medical forensic exam and how to access an exam.

April 17, Advocacy 101
Attendees will learn more about advocacy, including how to advocate and opportunities available on campus.

April 24, What is Prevention?
This workshop will focus on moving from awareness-based programming to preventing harm before it occurs.
