Levi Birkholz, a 2023 graduate of Lakeside Lutheran who led the program to the Division 3 State Championships last season, is transferring from The Citadel to Minnesota State University Moorhead for men's basketball.

Birkholz played sparingly for The Citadel, which went 11-21, appearing in 17 games and scoring a total of 12 points.

MSU Moorhead, a Division 2 school in the northwest part of the state which plays in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, went 25-6 this past season, posting 19 or more victories in the last three seasons.

Birkholz held a scholarship offer from Moorhead out of high school.

    DENOYER HIRED AT WLA

Mason DeNoyer, a 2016 graduate of Lakeside Lutheran, was recently hired to coach the varsity boys basketball team at Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac.

DeNoyer, who is currently a math teacher and assistant basketball coach at Delavan-Darien High School, played collegiately at UW-La Crosse. While at Lakeside, DeNoyer was twice named to the Capitol North first team all-conference team and left as the school's career leader in scoring and assists (Birkholz went on to break the scoring mark).

WLA went 14-11 last season under head coach Marty Nell.
