Like many senior living communities, Tribute at Black Hill in Germantown held a ceremony honoring veterans on Memorial Day afternoon. But unlike many communities, it also dedicated a more permanent tribute to veterans.
Monday afternoon employees unveiled a “Wall of Honor” to honor military veterans. Six of the men pictured live at Tribute at Black Hill and two passed away. However, their spouses live in the Montgomery County community, which has about a hundred residents.
Although there are only eight pictures to start with, an employee told 7News the plan is to add many more pictures of veterans with time.
Veterans living at Tribute at Black Hill range from those in their 80s to World War II and Korean War veteran Glenn Toms, who is 97!
Veterans who spoke with 7News said they are very happy there will be a permanent wall honoring those who served in their community.
“I think it’s a good idea, not necessarily for the veterans, but it’s a good idea for the children [and grandchildren] of the veterans,” said Dr. Chuck Peck, an 84-year-old Vietnam veteran who served 30 years as a surgeon in the Army and is pictured on the Wall of Honor.
“I want everybody to know that the soldiers, sailors, Marines and Coast Guard all were putting their lives on the line for the individuals here at home, and we did it without a second thought,” Peck said.
