Montgomery County’s Tox-Away Day is scheduled for July 8 in the North Montgomery High School parking lot. The Montgomery County Solid Waste Management Board approved the $29,500 contract with NuGenisis.
The contract states NuGenisis will be responsible for manning the event by collecting and discarding the materials collected.
There are no changes in this year’s event concerning fees or what can be collected. Residents are encouraged to pick up a flyer at the Montgomery County Government Center or Crawfordsville City Building which explains the fee schedule for tires.
Latex paint will not be accepted but most other liquids will be. There is a charge of $20 per television.
As in the past, residents are asked to follow driving signs and remain in their vehicle. NuGenisis employees will unload vehicles.
Only Montgomery County residents are allowed to particpate in the event.
More information will be provided closer to the date of the event.
The board asked county administrator Tom Klein to gather information on recycling in towns and in particular how much they pay for the recycling bins. After some discussion it was discovered the fee towns are paying for recycling trailers is different per town. For instance Waynetown pays one-half of their annual fee of $3,800. Waveland on the other hand has their recycling bin paid completely by the county.
Board member and county commissioner Jim Fulwider suggested Klein do the study and bring back findings at the board’s August meeting. He said towns need to be treated equally.
“I think we need to make all towns pay the same,” Fulwider said. “It seems we are to promote recycling and in a way, we are making it more difficult for some of the towns.”
Presently New Ross, Waynetown, Waveland and Ladoga have recycling bins. Darlington recently stopped recycling in their town. Linden and New Market have always been expected to use the bins at North Montgomery High School and Southmont High School respectively.
County attorney Dave Taylor advised that all towns should be treated equally.
The board approved meetings to be held quarterly beginning with the May meeting and changed the location to the Montgomery County Government Center. The next meeting will be in August.
