Suspect charged in weekend shooting death of man in Montgomery

A suspect is in custody in the weekend shooting death of another man in Montgomery.

Police early Tuesday announced the arrest of Desmond Lowe Jr. The 25-year-old Cecil man is charged with murder in the slaying of Donald Bell Jr.

Police and fire medics were dispatched at 9:12 p.m. Saturday to a report of a person shot in the 700 block of University Drive North, said police Capt. Jarrett Williams.

Officers got to the location and found Bell had sustained a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting have not been disclosed.

Lowe was taken into custody Monday night with help from ALEA’s Aviation Unit, the Montgomery Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

He is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
