MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Friday afternoon, June 2, Gov. Kay Ivey officially declared the Yellowhammer Cookie as Alabama’s state cookie.

Fourth grader Mary Claire Cook, from Montgomery, presented a batch of the special cookies to Gov. Ivey who personally tasted and approved them.

The Yellowhammer Cookie includes pecans and peanuts, crops with historical and agricultural significance in Alabama. The state designates peanuts as the official legume and pecans as the official nut.

The recipe also incorporates state-associated ingredients like oats and honey.

Gov. Ivey expressed her joy in the decision, saying in the official statement, “Sweet Home Alabama just got a little sweeter!”
