Nations Ford Elementary School — School Named In Transportation Review. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is taking a step back from its proposal to shift school start and end times at several campuses after parents pushed back hard, warning that later dismissals could leave kids on buses for hours and even drive families out of their children's programs. Clover schools picks a new superintendent. What to know about this former principal
The Clover School District named Rod Ruth as its new superintendent, completing a countywide turnover of top school officials and setting a course for a new educational era within the district . The school board finalized a contract with Ruth on Monday. Ruth will replace Sheila Quinn , who announced in August that she intended to retire. Ruth has been the district’s Chief Student Services and Secondary Education Officer the past three years. Ruth was principal at Clover High from 2015 to 2023. In that time the school was a finalist for the Palmetto’s Finest award and Ruth was named South Carolina Secondary Principal of the Year in 2022. “As a board, we were impressed with the caliber of the senior leadership team and knew that we had the opportunity to consider all options here in Clover School District before looking elsewhere,” said school board Chairman Rob Wallace. Hiring Ruth allowed the board to get insight beyond just what a candidate could present in one interview. “We have been able to watch him work over the past decade and know the type of proven leader he is each and every day,” Wallace said. Six years in: Has Chancellor Sharon Gaber changed how people see UNC Charlotte?
The conversation has turned to a seemingly trivial thing: wearing green on Wednesdays. In Sharon Gaber’s office at UNC Charlotte, her communications team is explaining how the chancellor has helped build pride in a university that still struggles to shake its old reputation as a commuter school. One example, they say, is “Wear Green Wednesday,” something Gaber started after arriving in 2020. Except, Gaber interrupts, she didn’t. “Well, I didn’t even start it, though,” she says. “Supposedly, it was before I got here, but nobody was doing it. I’m like, ‘What the heck?’ What the heck ?’” What she did was wear green herself, then ask colleagues why they weren’t. (A nudge from the chancellor carried some weight.) The point was to make people feel like they were part of something — and make sure other people noticed.
