Suspect arrested in weekend robbery and attempted carjacking
Officers from the Monterey Police Department arrested a suspect connected to a robbery and attempted carjacking on Sunday.Police were dispatched around 10 a.m. to the 800 block of Foam Street in Monterey after receiving a call regarding a robbery. According to police, the victim was near his vehicle when two suspects approached him and demanded his keys at gunpoint. Both suspects began punching the victim in the face and head. At one point during the altercation, the victim was hit on the head with something hard, causing a small laceration on the back of his head. The suspects stole the victim's phone and left the scene.Monterey police established a perimeter upon arriving at the scene. With the help of video surveillance from a nearby business, a description of the suspects could be circulated to nearby officers.One of the suspects was located on a recreation trail near Drake Avenue and immediately ran from officers. After a lengthy search, police located and arrested 18-year-old Abraham Andrade on the 300 block of Foam Street. A gun was not found.Andrade was booked at the Monterey County Jail for attempted carjacking, robbery, conspiracy, vandalism and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $140,000.The second suspect remains unknown. The Monterey Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them at 831-646-3803.
