Local Hero Who Served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam Dies at Age 101

Col. Orville R. Hughes, a decorated Army officer who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and later was an analyst for Baltimore’s finance department, died of multiple organ failure March 16 at Stella Maris Hospice in Lutherville. The Monkton resident was 101.

Orville Roy Hughes, son of James Blain Hughes, an icehouse worker, and Amanda Lereau Hughes, a hairdresser, was born in Armstrong, Illinois, and raised in Danville, Illinois, where he graduated from Danville High School.
