BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley Animal Center said it’s in dire need of foster families to help take in some of the animals housed at its shelter. Workers said the center has reached a critical level and has very little room available.
“We have sent animals out to rescues and as soon as they leave other dogs are coming in. We cannot keep this up,” BAC posted to its official Facebook account. “We are pleading to our community to please come help. We have some wonderful dogs that just want to be loved and to live in a safe home.”
According to BAC, 67 dogs are ready for adoption, and 32 stray dogs remain on hold for now.
On Thursday, the shelter took in 11 puppies that must be fed on a bottle. The center is looking to foster them out as soon as possible.

“Puppies this small cannot stay in the shelter,” Friends of Berkeley Animal Center posted to social media. “They will need to go out in pairs and as a trio. All supplies will be provided. Please help if you can.”
Dozens of kittens need fostering, too, according to the nonprofit.
“Space is quickly running out in the cat rooms and these kittens WILL GET SICK if they stay at the shelter too long,” they said.
To free up space at Berkeley Animal Center, adoption fees for all adult dogs (over 6 months) are $20 through June 10. The center is located at 131 Berkeley Dr. in Moncks Corner. Find available dogs for adoption at this link.
