(FOX40.COM) — Two people are dead after a fatal crash in Modesto on Sunday morning, according to the Modesto Police Department.

At around 1:30 a.m., MPD responded to a single-vehicle crash at South Carpenter Road and Hatch Road. Upon arrival, officers said they discovered that both occupants of the vehicle, a 2008 Honda Accord, were deceased.

Officials said the vehicle was traveling northbound on South Carpenter Road when it first struck the island and signal light pole at the southeast corner of the intersection with Hatch Road. Afterward, it collided with the island and a signal light pole on the northeast corner, resulting in significant damage and fatal injuries to the driver and the passenger.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is advised by law enforcement to contact Officer Justin Beverson of the Traffic Safety Unit at Beversonj@modestopd.com or 209-572-9592.
