Sentencing ends 2019 OWI case
EAU CLAIRE — An unusually long-running OWI case wrapped up Thursday with the defendant receiving a prison sentence. Ian Kellman, 54, Hatley, was charged in March of 2018 with his seventh OWI. Wedding barn owners sue to invalidate law they say threatens their business
Owners of wedding barns in Wisconsin filed a lawsuit Tuesday to invalidate part of a new law they say could put them out of business. The lawsuit, brought by wedding barn owners in Green Lake and Trempealeau counties with the aid of a conservative legal group, challenges language in the law signed last year by Gov. Tony Evers that changes when the wedding venues are required to obtain a liquor license.
Ekoue earns WIAC Field Performer of the Meet honors
MADISON — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Yakob Ekoue (Sr. — Hopkins, Minnesota was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Field Performer of the Meet for the 2024 WIAC Outdoor Championships. The WIAC announced the award winners Friday afternoon, with Ekoue earning the distinction for the second consecutive season. Ekoue won the discus at the WIAC championship with a heave of 173-6 (52.89m) and added a second-place finish in the hammer throw and third-place standing in the shot put. Ekoue was also the Field Performer of the Meet at this season’s WIAC Indoor Championships and won a national championship in the shot put during the indoor season. The Blugolds are set to compete in a few last-chance qualifiers over the next couple of weeks before heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the NCAA Outdoor Championships from May 23-25.

Pepin County Heritage hosts Civil War re-enactment
DURAND, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Today (5/9/24), students and community members in Pepin County were brought back in time to learn about the Civil War. The 2nd Minnesota Battery of Light Artillery, a Civil War re-enactment group, firing its cannon several times at the Pepin County Heritage Center in downtown Durand. The firing of the cannon and historical outfits are all part of the living history event. Teaching students about the life of a Civil War soldier, small arms and artifacts, the role of women during the war, and the events that led up to the war. President of the 2nd Minnesota Battery of Light Artillery, Ken Cunningham, explains, “We try to make them aware of the consequential outcome of the civil war, although it was one of the worst wars fought in the us it kept the union together as one country not two.”

Minnesota man arrested following vehicle chase
TREMPEALEAU COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - A Minnesota man was arrested today after leading police on a chase following an attempted traffic stop for speeding. On May 7 at about 1:16 a.m., 55-year-old Scott Coxworth of Houston, Minn., was arrested without incident after leading police on a chase from the Town of Gale in Trempealeau County into La Crosse County.
County D under I-94 closed for construction starting May 13
