21-year-old motorcyclist killed in wreck near Mobile involving truck, second motorcycle

A 21-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck that in turn collided with a second motorcycle Tuesday night near Mobile, authorities said Wednesday.

Christopher D. Balthaser, 21, of Theodore was operating a 2019 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when it was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche around 7 p.m. Tuesday on Old Pascagoula Road, about four miles west of Mobile, said Senior Trooper Anna Peoples of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The Avalanche then struck a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle.

Balthaser was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

The second motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.

Authorities did not say whether the driver of the Avalanche was injured.

Further information was unavailable as authorities continued to investigate the wreck.
