74-year-old pedestrian struck, killed by Mobile police officer on I-10

A 74-year-old man was struck and killed by a Mobile police officer driving on Interstate 10 early Tuesday.

According to the Mobile police department, the officer, who has not been identified, was driving westbound on I-10 near Riviere Du Chien Road about 2:16 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said preliminary investigation indicates the officer was driving in the inside lane when he struck the pedestrian, who had walked into the roadway.

A release from the police department said the incident happened during foggy weather conditions.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation remains open.
