Pedestrian struck by 5 vehicles, killed on downtown Mobile street

A 62-year-old man died when he stepped in front of a vehicle on Government Street in downtown Mobile on Tuesday morning, the authorities said.

After the initial collision, Mobile police said, four more vehicles struck the victim and continued traveling east on Government Street.

It happened just after 6 a.m. near the intersection of Ann Street. The driver of the first vehicle remained at the scene and did not appear to be impaired, according to police.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police noted poor driving conditions, as it was dark and lightly raining at the time of the collision.
