A motorcycle was stolen. Police say they found it — and suspect — across the street

A motorcycle was reported stolen from a store on Dauphin Island Parkway Thursday. Police didn’t have to look far to find it.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to Fulton Grocery on a theft report. When they got there, they learned the victim’s motorcycle had been stolen from outside the store.

While officers were still at the store, they looked across the street and there was 22-year-old Marshall Knight -- and the stolen motorcycle.

Knight was quickly taken into custody and transported to the Mobile Metro Jail, where he remained as of Friday midday, charged with 1st degree theft of property.

If convicted, Knight faces from 2-20 years in state prison and a fine up to $30,000.

The motorcycle was returned to the victim.
