Mobile's panhandling ordinance no longer in effect
Mobile, Ala. (WPMI) —
A recent Federal court ruling out of Montgomery has impacted the City of Mobile’s panhandling ordinance.

A federal judge determined that the State statute prohibiting panhandling was unconstitutional as a violation of free speech in a case brought by homeless residents of Montgomery.
That ruling rendering Mobile’s ordinance unconstitutional, as well.
According to a City spokesperson, charges for violation of the ordinance were not very common.
The ordinance had been in effect since 2010.
