Another Moapa Valley High School athlete has signed to play ball at the college level. Last month, MVHS senior Ethan Stankosky signed a letter of intent to play football at St. George Junior College next fall.

Stankosky will be reporting for practice in July to begin play in August for the St. George Eagles. The team’s first two games will be against Snow College and New Mexico Military Institute.
Stankosky started playing Moapa Valley youth football back in sixth grade. But he took to it quickly, even at a young age.

“In the beginning, football was just something that all my friends were doing so it was the cool thing to do,” Stankosky said in an interview with The Progress. “But it didn’t take long before I was hooked. I just loved it.”

Stankosky played all through middle school and was on the team that won the 8th grade league championship.
“By that point, I was just committed that I wanted to play for Moapa Valley High School,” he said.

He played his first MVHS Varsity game during his sophomore year. That was 2021 when the COVID pandemic forced football to become a spring sport. “That was the year I got my first touchdown on varsity and my first tackle on varsity,” he said.

As a defensive linebacker, Stankosky has played a total of 23 games on varsity getting a total of 95 tackles or 4.1 per game. He led the team during his senior year in solo tackles.
“I know that I am not the biggest, strongest or the fastest,” Stankosky said. “That just means I have to work harder.”

He said that he plans to carry that philosophy into the junior college arena of play. “I look forward to this experience,” he said. “My idea is, it will give me some experience and just a chance to play on the next level.”
“From there I hope to get an early start and work hard to get attention from a D1 or D2 school,” he added.

Stankosky expressed appreciation for those who had influenced or helped him along the way during his school years.
“I am grateful for my parents, coaches, teammates; just anyone who has pushed me to try harder,” Stankoski said. “I would not be here without them.”

Ethan Stankosky is the son of Matt and Jackie Stankosky of Logandale.
