Montana FWP reports 29,500 geese and 12 swans were spotted at the Wildlife Management Area on Wednesday.
"A bit more diversity of birds being observed but overall numbers remain below average for this time of year, except for light geese," the FWP migration tracker notes. "Northern Pintails remain the strongest other species being observed on the Area, albeit in minimal locations due to lingering ice."
The migration usually peaks on March 25, but late ice kept birds from landing earlier in the season.
The migration attracts birdwatchers from around the state, every year.
