According to a press release from Mississippi Department of Education, more than 90 percent of school districts across the state of Mississippi earned a grade of C or higher for the 23-24 school year. 85.7 percent of schools were shown to have earned a grade of C or higher.

This is fanastic news for MDE, as it means that teachers and schools across the state have met a 2016 goal put forth by the department of education. At the time of the goal being set in 2016, sixty-two percent of schools and districts were meeting the goal of being a C or higher. The goal teachers have been working with students to achieve states that all schools should earn a score of C or higher. This means that the largest-ever group of Mississippi schools have now earned a score of C or higher.

These scores are calculated primarily by using statewide student assessment data. According to the press release, the overall percentage of students achieving a proficient or advanced proficient scoring reached an all-time high in science, mathematics, and English/Language Arts.0.2

“I am incredibly proud of our students, teachers and school leaders for their academic achievements in the 2023-24 school year,” said Dr. Lance Evans, state superintendent of education. “This year’s school and district grades are a testament to the quality and success of Mississippi public schools. I am confident we will continue to build upon this success to make sure every Mississippi public school graduate is prepared for a successful future.”
