Man Drowns Trying to Recover Boat

A man’s body was found in Moonlake, a Coahoma County lake, near the junction of Highways 61 and 49 in Lula, on Wednesday evening, according to Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Coahoma County Sheriff Mario Magsby, Sr. said in a news release that deputies were dispatched to Moon Lake after a call that a truck that had been abandoned on the boat ramp for hours. Coahoma County Search and Rescue with the help of Mississippi Game Wardens discovered a body later that evening at around 9:30.

Officials believe that the victim drowned while trying to recover his boat.

The identity of the victim has not been made public.
