Mission PD speak on man shot, killed by officers after shooting wife

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Mission Police Department held a news conference Monday to discuss a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday.

According to the Mission Police Department, officers responded to a call at 10:53 p.m. Thursday of a husband and wife arguing at the 1300 block of Dons Drive. The wife reported to police that she had been shot by her husband who fled the scene in a black pickup truck.

When officers located the man heading southbound on Stuart Road, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop and he led them on a high-speed chase, police said.

The vehicle went into oncoming traffic, crashing into an SUV.

The suspect then got out of the vehicle and pulled out a gun. The officers shot multiple rounds at the suspect, as an exchange of gunfire occurred. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s wife is in stable condition at a local hospital, and the driver of the vehicle the suspect crashed into is in critical condition.

The four officers involved in the shooting have been placed on leave and the Texas Rangers will be taking over the investigation.
