Area reopens after raw chicken spills onto road in Mint Hill: Police

Authorities say traffic issues are affecting the road from Rock Hill Church Road to I-485 due to debris creating a hazard.

MINT HILL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An area road in Mint Hill reopened Thursday morning after a truck carrying raw chicken accidentally dumped pieces onto the roadway.

Authorities said NC-218 was restricted from Rock Hill Church Road to I-485 due to debris in the roadway, creating a hazard.

Mint Hill Police said the truck driver stopped too quickly at the stoplight in the area at NC-218 and chicken parts trailed out of the truck for 100 yards. The driver reportedly turned to get onto I-485 when he stopped when he learned what had happened.

Mint Hill Fire and NCDOT officials responded to the scene Thursday morning and worked to spray and clean the road before reopening it. The area officially reopened around 9:30 a.m.

A detour was announced Thursday morning. Drivers were asked to use Rock Hill Church Road to Lawyers Road if they were entering Mint Hill from Union County, police said.
