Italian Eatery to close down for good – owners confirm ‘final months of service’ in heartbreaking post

However, the company announced that one of their restaurants would remain open

A POPULAR restaurant and street food spot has announced its impending closure.

Italian Eatery, located in south Minneapolis, Minnesota, told its long-time customers that it planned to shut its doors.

The beloved restaurant, also known as ie, also plans to close its sister restaurant un dito, known for its Sicilian seaside street food.

They have not announced a closing date but are expected to close between late May and mid-June, according to Bring Me The News.

"As we prepare to close our doors at ie and un dito, we'd like to extend a heartfelt invitation for you to join us for our final months of service," an email to customers from Carrara $ Co. read.

"Gather with us at the table and let us reminisce over the incredible memories we’ve created together and cherish the moments shared over the past nine years."

Italian Eatery has been a popular spot since its opening in 2016 and is known for its full-service drinks and dining near Lake Nokomis.

Un dito is a 400-square-foot space that specializes in sips and snacks or afternoon gatherings like you would see in Italy, according to its website.

The restaurant's "Last Supper" reservations will be released every week and shared in weekly newsletters, according to its website.

"As always, we will continue to reserve walk-in tables at both ie + un dito for our beloved neighborhood," the announcement read, according to the outlet.

Carrara & Co. also owns due, a focacceria and Italian market in St. Paul, Minnesota that the company calls "Italian Eatery’s spawn, aka quirky little brother," according to its website.

Despite the Minneapolis closures, due will remain open.

"I'm pleased to inform you that all other Carrara & Co operations remain unaffected, including Due Focacceria, and we are even expanding our services," according to a statement, reported by NBC affiliate KARE.

'AS ALWAYS, A GREAT MEAL'

Italian Eatery has received a slew of positive reviews during its nine years of operation.

"As always, a great meal and service. We enjoyed our appetizer, main courses and gelato for dessert!" said one reviewer on OpenTable.

"We loved our experience at Italian Eatery. The service was excellent and attentive, the food was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We will definitely be back," said another.

Restaurant closures in 2024

BOSSES at major dining chains have announced a series of restaurant closures. The U.S. Sun has compiled a list of the chain's affected.

  • Cracker Barrel: Stores in Medford, Oregon, Columbia, South Carolina, and Sacramento, California, have closed.
  • Mod Pizza: Bosses dramatically shuttered 27 shops, including in the state of California.
  • Frisch's Big Boy: Restaurant chiefs confirmed the closure of a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky.
  • Two Bucks: Four restaurants in Ohio are set to close.
  • Chili's: A restaurant in Port Arthur, Texas, has shut permanently.
  • Friendly's: Bosses confirmed an establishment in Ronkonkoma, Long Island will close.
  • Pizza Hut: A restaurant in Glen Falls, New York, closed at the end of March.
  • Denny's: Two restaurants in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, have closed.
  • Carl's Jr.: The first Boise, Idaho location has closed.
  • Italian Eatery: A restaurant and street food spot is expected to close between late May and mid-June

"The only downside was a noisy environment that made it difficult to hear everyone at our table of four. I guess that's the price you pay for a well-loved restaurant as the place was packed from 5:30 on!" they continued.

Many customers seemed to be regulars including a customer that said "Excellent as always!!"

"My favorite place! Always amazing!! I highly recommend it" another said.

"Very good food with great ambiance and service. Highly recommend," a user commented.

"Italian Eatery is truly the best Italian restaurant in the cities! Amazing service, incredible food, lovely ambiance," a commenter wrote enthusiastically.

The U.S. Sun has reported on many restaurant closures including three Cracker Barrel locations that closed across the country.
