The car that crashed and injured six juveniles Monday in north Minneapolis following a police chase was believed to be connected to a series of armed robberies earlier in the day.

Officials with the Hennepin County sheriff's office says because of the nature of those robberies, the chase was consistent with department policy.

Members of the Hennepin County Violent Task Force and the Minneapolis police department were on a joint operation when they noticed a silver KIA driving erratically.

It turns out the silver KIA was stolen, and the driver was only 12 years old.

The chase ended when the KIA crashed into another car and both plowed into a bus shelter at Penn Avenue and Olson Memorial Highway.

The driver of the second car and a pedestrian were hurt.

Five of the six juveniles inside the KIA were boys. All were apprehended and received hospital treatment for injuries. Every one of those injured in the crash are expected to survive.
