The future of Dalvin Cook with the Minnesota Vikings is in question with rumors swirling that the team could be looking to part ways with the veteran running back before the start of the season. If that happens, there’s a clear frontrunner to land him in free agency: the Miami Dolphins.
According to Miami Dolphins insider Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, while it is not a “done deal” that Dalvin Cook will end up in Miami if he is released by the Vikings, it’s “certainly a real possibility.”
“For those asking if Dalvin Cook to the Dolphins is a done deal, I have been led to believe it’s not a done deal. Could Cook end up here? Absolutely. It’s certainly a real possibility if he’s cut by Minnesota. There would be interest on both sides,” Jackson wrote for the Miami Herald.
Jackson points out that while there is mutual interest and the Dolphins would likely be Cook’s choice if all offers are in the same compensation range, we won’t know for sure until Cook were to hit the market and see what other teams are willing to offer him.
“Though South Florida is home for Cook and he would love to play here if he’s not in Minnesota, it’s difficult to envision Cook rejecting a significantly higher offer from another team. And until he’s on the open market, it’s impossible to tell how much he could command,” Jackson wrote.
It’s a pretty big update on what would be a major free agency splash, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.
Hahaha, they can have him! I've watched maybe a million Dalvin Cook one-yard runs on first and second down.
Great news on a Saturday morning

The Vikings want to keep Dalvin Cook but at a reduced cost. If he doesn’t acquiesce to their demands, the belief is that they will release him to save $9 million in cap space.
The Dolphins are Cook’s desired landing spot if he is released.
It just so happens that Miami has $13.6…— Neal Driscoll (@NealDriscoll) May 31, 2023
Dalvin cook on the dolphins could be scary…

That would be nuts. Roster is loaded from top to bottom as it is and add a legit RB to that offense look out.

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens with Cook in Minnesota and whether or not he ultimately ends up in Miami.
