Big weekend of events set here
This weekend, no one should complain that there’s nothing to do in Silver City. Take your pick or enjoy a little bit of each — Earth Day and Continental Divide Trail Days, Western New Mexico University’s Great Race and Love Your Library Day will provide a variety of events through Sunday. Saturday is also 420 Day, on which several cannabis dispensaries are celebrating the use of the now-legal substance. The Daily Press will detail events for that celebration in Friday’s edition.

Santa Clara residents, businesses to see utility bill rate increase July 1
Residents and businesses in Santa Clara will pay a little more on their village utility bills starting July 1. The village Board of Trustees approved an increase in water, sewer and trash collection rates that will amount to a 5 percent across-the-board hike. That will amount, on average, to about $2.60 per month per household, Village Administrator Sheila Hudman said.

Patriots sweep Western New Mexico in softball
The No. 6 UT Tyler Patriots scored 46 runs in a three-game sweep of Western New Mexico this weekend at The Yard in Silver City, New Mexico. The Patriots won two games on Saturday — 7-4 and 24-6. UT Tyler completed the 3-0 roadtrip with a 15-2 five-inning win on Sunday.
Shakespeare on the Big Ditch in Silver City
TheActrix Studio LLC is holding an open call for the 2nd DitchSpeare classical street theatre event this Friday and Saturday. Ditchspeare received great acclaim when it premiered last year, prompting organizers to expand the experiment to an annual event.
