School bus with children inside struck by gunfire in Milwaukee

By Evan Vogel,

Milwaukee Police say a 7-year-old boy and 13-year-old boy were on a school bus when it was struck by gunfire Tuesday afternoon.

It happened as the bus was traveling eastbound on Meinecke near 15th street just before 3:30pm.

Luckily, no one on the school bus was injured. Police are still searching for suspects.

"I couldn't imagine man. I got kids I couldn't imagine my daughter, my son being in a bus getting hit by gunfire that's sad. Scary," Jerel Johnson said.

Johnson grew up in the neighborhood.

"It’s a big sense of relief that nobody was hurt, but it’s just sad the reckless gun use and reckless gun violence," Johnson said.

Milwaukee Public Schools said the bus did not come from any of their sites. Other schools in the immediate area said the bus was not theirs either.

As police continue to investigate, neighbors had a message for those holding the guns.

"I would hope that they would think about their grandparents, the young children," Trasus Wright said.
