Chick-fil-A's plans for its first Milwaukee restaurant are moving forward.

A proposal for Milwaukee's first Chick-fil-A restaurant has won a key city endorsement, and could be coming in 2024.

The Plan Commission approved plans for the restaurant at 2701 W. Morgan Ave., on the city's south side. That's currently home to Zebb's Family Restaurant, which is to be demolished to make way for the Chick-fil-A.

Zebb's lease with the property's owner, Northbrook, Illinois-based Loomis Centre LLC, runs through 2027, according to comments from representatives of Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A.

But that lease could be terminated this year − apparently through a negotiated buy-out agreement with Zebb's, they said.

The 5,361-square-foot restaurant will include dual drive-through lanes, outdoor patio seating and extensive landscaping, according to the plans.

There also will be new left turn traffic signals added to the site's nearby intersections to handle increased traffic.

Chick-fil-A has several locations throughout the Milwaukee area, but this would the first full-service Chick-fil-A in the city. There is a Chick-fil-A stand inside Fiserv Forum.

Zebb's opened in 1994. It uses a building that was constructed in 1961, according to city assessment records.

"I'm going to be sad to see Zebb's go," said Ald. Scott Spiker, whose district includes the site. "But that building is nearing the end of its life."
