HANNAH HILLIARD JUST AFTER THE JUDGE’S DECISION. ALSO, A MOURNING MOTHER AND GRIEVING FATHER. I’M THE FATHER AND I’M SUPPOSED TO PROTECT ALL MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. AND THAT DAY, I FEEL I FEEL I FELL SHORT. THE TWO WERE IN COURT THURSDAY ADDRESSING THE MAN WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO KILLING THEIR DAUGHTER, 12 YEAR OLD OLIVIA SCHULTZ, IN HER OWN BACKYARD BACK IN OCTOBER 2022. YOU WERE IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME. THAT’S WHAT I FEEL. BECAUSE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE FAMILY WAS UNLOADING GROCERIES WHEN THEY LOOKED AT TWO MASKED TEENS IN THE ALLEY. ONE OF THEM, BENJAMIN GARRETT. PROSECUTORS SAY BOTH TEENS EVENTUALLY WALKED AWAY FROM THE FAMILY, BUT THEN TURNED AROUND AND OPENED FIRE. THIS IS WHAT IT’S COME DOWN TO. YOU CAN’T LOOK IN ANYBODY WHERE YOU MAY GET SHOT INJURING MOM AND KILLING OLIVIA GARRETT APOLOGIZING DURING HIS SENTENCING THURSDAY. I CAUSED THE DEATH OF AN INNOCENT HUMAN BEING IN THIS. A YOUNG GIRL, A YOUNG INNOCENT GIRL. I COULD NEVER BRING BACK. I THINK ABOUT THIS EVERY DAY. NOT THAT IT’S SOMETHING THAT I EVER BE ABLE TO FORGET. THE JUDGE SENTENCED GARRETT TO 22 YEARS OF CONFINEMENT. HER MOM AFTERWARDS CALLING IT JUSTICE, SOMEWHAT, FEELING A LITTLE BIT OF JUST A LITTLE BIT. JUST A LITTLE BIT, BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS IN THEIR I STILL GOT TO GO HOME AND KNOW SHE’S NOT THERE. A SECOND TEENAGER, CORNELL HORNER, IS FACING THE SAME CHARGES AS GARRETT.
