Mark Jackson will get another opportunity to land a second chance as an NBA coach.
He will interview for the Milwaukee Bucks head coaching job, according to a report from The Athletic.
The Bucks dismissed Mike Budenholzer as coach earlier this month following a first-round gentleman’s sweep to the No. 8 seed Miami Heat despite being the Eastern Conference favorites.
Jackson, 58, currently an NBA analyst for ESPN, hasn’t been a head coach in the league for nearly 10 seasons.
His only stint in the role was with the Golden State Warriors from 2011-2014, where he memorably led the pre-dynasty era Warriors to 51 wins in 2013-14 and was canned following a first-round exit.
He was subsequently replaced by Steve Kerr, who led the team to four championships since.
On multiple occasions, he has voiced his intent to coach again.
Jackson interviewed for the Sacramento Kings coaching job last year, where he was a finalist. He also has had interviews over the years with the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, among others.
If hired, he’d be coaching NBA superstar and former two-time MVP Giannis Antetokoumnpo.
Budenholzer coached the Bucks from 2018-2023, winning an NBA title in 2021, two years after Budenholzer — previous coach of the Atlanta Hawks from 2013-2018 — won his second Coach of the Year Award.
Budenholzer was the Bucks’ longest-tenured head coach since George Karl led the team from 1998-2003, but the team felt it was time to move on.
