MU set for a pair of meets on March 31 and April 1

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field teams open up the 2023 outdoor campaign with a pair of meets this weekend.

The Golden Eagles will be competing in a total of 10 outdoor meets, excluding NCAA regional and championship meets.

Members of the distance team are heading to Washington University in St. Louis for the distance carnival on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The meet kicks off at 11:15 a.m. CT on Friday. Live results will be available here. Live video coverage of Friday's events will be available starting at 11 a.m. on washubears.com.

The rest of the squad will be heading down to Illinois State Saturday for the Redbird Challenge. Action kicks off at 8 a.m. CT with the field events. Running events will follow in the afternoon. Live results will be available through Shazam Racing.

Conclusion of Indoor Season
MU wrapped up the indoor season back in February at the BIG EAST Championships hosted by DePaul in Chicago. The men took fourth and the women sixth.

Four Golden Eagles earned All-BIG EAST honors for placing in the top three in their respective events at the league meet. Harry Baker (high jump), Marquis Ward (high jump) and Simon Werven (heptathlon) earned the honors on the men's side, and Annika Bynum (high jump) on the women's team.

Freshman Gus Kasun broke the school freshman heptathlon record, previously held by Joe Keys, with a score of 4692. Kasun achieved personal bests in six of the seven events en route to breaking the freshman record. His mark also ranks No. 8 overall in school history.

There were nine top 10 all-time marks achieved and 40 personal bests at the conference meet.

2023 Debuts
Graduate transfers Adam Schommer and Caleb Venzke will be making their Marquette debuts at the Redbird Challenge. Schommer comes from UW-Whitewater and will be competing in the pole vault for the Golden Eagles. Venzke will be making his debut in the javelin and joins MU from Wisconsin River Falls.

On the women's side, throwers Clara Braunberger and Grace Mager will be making their 2023 season debuts in the javelin.
