NBA referee James Williams NBA referee James Williams delighted the crowd in Utah during a quarter break in Friday’s game between the Jazz and Bucks.

There wasn’t a lot of drama in Friday’s game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz, as the Bucks dominated the game, winning 144-116. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to talk about from that game.

The main highlight didn’t come from either of the teams, or any coach or player. No, it came from referee James Williams. And while normally that would mean a controversial call, that was not the case. For a brief moment, Williams became an entertainer.

During one of the quarter breaks, Williams decided to entertain the fans. He got in a mini four-wheeler and rode around the floor. He even drove it by fans and fist-bumped some of them.

Basketball fans easily found the humor in Williams’ antics.

One of the common criticisms of officials in all sports is that they too often act as though everyone is watching the game to see them, not the players. But if more referees and umpires did this during the game breaks, that might change.

It’s good to see an official lighten up some and give everyone a good laugh. Referees and umpires are heavily criticized across all sports. Giving the fans more of a look at the ligther side is not a bad idea.
