2 shot in Milwaukee at 26th and Hope, 'just getting ridiculous'

Two people were shot in Milwaukee near 26th and Hope Tuesday afternoon, and one of them died at the scene.

Two people were shot in Milwaukee near 26th and Hope Tuesday afternoon, March 21. One male died at the scene. The second man, 41, was seriously hurt and taken to the hospital.

Police are investigating what led to the gunfire.

"Things are just getting ridiculous," said Willie Brown, neighbor. "Everybody walking around with guns in their pockets."

"The neighborhood’s just getting worse and worse and worse," said Lula Brown.

The Browns have called the neighborhood home for more than 50 years.

"We could sleep with just the screen door up when we first moved here in 1970," said Lula Brown.

They said the crime is prompting them to consider making a change.

"I’m going to try to find me someplace to high up and move," said Willie Brown. "I love the neighborhood when we got here, but it’s just going, it went downhill."

As of Tuesday, Milwaukee police data showed more than 30 homicides and more than 130 non-fatal shootings.

"How many times do you wake up during the week that you don’t hear somebody getting shot and killed with a gun?" said Willie Brown. 

"Politicians, wake up and smell the coffee," said Lula Brown.

Brown made a plea to city leaders to get a handle on gun violence in every community. 

"What do you want, to get a gun to kill somebody? Why?" said Lula Brown.

No arrests have been made.
