Milwaukee roads are among the most dangerous and deadliest in the state.

On Sunday, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office announced that a 32-year-old man died from his injuries in a hit-and-run crash. That crash occurred on the west side of Milwaukee, an area of town that has its fair share of fatal car crashes.

Here is where fatal car crashes have occurred in Milwaukee County in the last three years, according to data provided by the medical examiner's office.

Note: This data does not include crashes that occurred on area interstates.

Total fatal crashes on Milwaukee County roads

Ninety-five car crashes occurred on Milwaukee County roads in 2020 that resulted in someone dying either at the scene or at a later date as a result of their injuries. That number dropped to 79 in 2021. Last year, 81 fatal car crashes took place in the county.

Majority of fatal car crashes occurred on Milwaukee's north and northwest sides

Between 2020 and 2022, the north side of Milwaukee has seen the most fatal crashes in the county.

Pedestrians make up a significant share of fatal car crashes

In 2020, 18 pedestrians were killed by vehicles on Milwaukee County roads. That amounts to nearly 19% of the fatal car crashes in 2020. In 2021, 16 pedestrians were killed by vehicles, which amounts to more than 20% of the fatal crashes in the year.

Last year, that number increased dramatically when 28 pedestrians lost their lives as a result of a motor vehicle crashing into them. Meaning, more than one-third of fatal car crashes in 2022 (34.5%) were the result of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.
