A man has been arrested for allegedly punching a teenage girl, who is also sought by police, after a brawl broke out at a high school graduation in Delaware.

The alarm was raised at around 8.40pm on Tuesday, May 30, when officials working at the Sussex Central High School graduation were alerted to a crowd of people fighting outside of the main gate to the ceremonies.

Troops rushed to the scene where they saw a 48-year-old woman being kicked and punched by a 16-year-old girl. A 29-year-old man was also spotted punching people during the scrap, including this same teenage girl.

The girl fled across the softball field but began fighting again. Troopers separated her and spoke with her father, but both of them allegedly refused to cooperate with the investigation and soon left the area. The fight was broken up and the crowd dispersed.

A day later, on Wednesday, May 31, the 48-year-old who was seen being kicked and punched came forward with her 15-year-old daughter to report their injuries.

The woman had a scratch on her nose, and the girl had a black eye and a swollen nose. Troopers were able to identify the 16-year-old girl and there is currently an active warrant for her arrest.

Neither the 16-year-old suspect nor the 15-year-old victim are students at Sussex Central High School.
